Old age

So far this week has been interesting. Yesterday in Sociology, we watched a video on "Rites of Passage" about how in some cultures people have to go through extreme rituals and stuff to "become a man/woman." Eventually it lead into old people, and how a family around 80 was doin' well and kickin' fine. One day they went on vacation and the woman had a stroke in the airport out of nowhere. Suddenly she was wheelchair ridden and pretty much immobile, relying on her husband to help her. The family put the two in an old folks home and blah blah, you've all heard these stories before.

Generally, I'm not one to get upset over the thought of growing old. Occasionally it pops into my head and I think "god that would suck" but I don't fester on it because UH, I'm living in the now. When I was younger I used to think "i never want to grow up" and now here I am, fine as ever. I think looking that far forward you're thinking too much into it. Age happens slowly, so I figure once I actually start to GET old it's not like I'll have suddenly jumped from 19 to 70, so why bother getting upset over it now?

But it still bothered me for some reason.. For the rest of the day, kind of. Not so much about myself getting old, but thinking about my grandmother or my mom getting that old. Hell, I came home to my dad on the computer (who I haven't seen in like.. 2 months, mind you) with thinning, greyish hair. It was just a weird day.

So then today as I'm riding the bus home, we make the usual stop at the grocery store and an old man falls over in the street as he's walking towards the bus. A younger guy helped him up and lead him to the bus where he came up the steps slowly and just kinda stood there, shaking a little. The bus driver asked him if he was okay and he nodded, but she didn't buy it. She asked to hold his stuff so he could sit down or something and no sooner did he slump forward and start shaking; a seizure, I guess. Some more guys on the bus helped him into a seat where he was pretty much blacked out until an ambulance came.

I started getting panic-y as they were asking him if he was okay (im really weird about paramedics and emergency situations) but THANK GOD, I didn't pass out or anything.

Anyways, it's just crazy to think how something so small can alter your life so quickly at that age, and it kinda makes me want to just.. go off and die when I get to be too old. AGH, I'm really not trying to think too much about it, but good lord life, COULD YOU SHOVE SOME MORE OLD PEOPLE IN MY FACE?

I woke up this morning feeling like shit after a night of feeling lonely and depressed.

My class schedule is: Monday + Wednesday = History and Sociology, Tuesday + Thursday = English. My English class is at 9:25 A.M., and as you all know, I rely on the public bus system. The first day of class started and I woke up at 7:30, assuming I'd catch the bus at 8:45 to get me to school by 9:15.

When I arrived at the terminal, I waited for the bus...

and waited...

and waited...

I checked the schedule to see if it ran at a different time or something, and WOW LOOK AT THAT, the bus to my class comes at 6:45, 7:45, 9:45, 10:45, etc. WHY DOES IT SKIP 8:45?

So awesome, I missed my class. The next class rolls around and I end up sleeping through my alarm, missing class again, and then finally when the next one comes, I wake up in time, get to the bus station, catch the bus, and get to school at 8:15. I chill in the library, talking to ksilebo for a bit, then head to my class.

Wouldn't you know it? The lights are off. Now I'm pissed class was either canceled, or they were in the library for some reason. If it were the latter, I couldn't go and check because I don't know what the teacher or students look like. Awesome, another missed class.

At this point I'm terrified I've been dropped. I was getting depressed at how off-the-ball I was being with getting to school. I felt lazy and unmotivated, and I was worried that IF my class WAS dropped, that I'd be unlucky enough for it to be dropped after the refund deadline.

So I wake up today, catch the bus, go to school, chill in the library, and then head to class. I walked inside and the teacher asked me if I was here for the English class at 9:25. I nodded and said I was, then she told me the class didn't officially START until Thursday, and that I must've been one of the kids that didn't get the e-mail.

Dude seriously, I have never been more relieved in my life. I explained my whole situation to her and like.. I just couldn't stop smiling ahahaha. I felt SO GOOD. hskdgjhsdjg. So I'm just feeling really great today. I'm waiting for a friend to get out of class, and chilling in the library, working on art in the meantime.

I swear I have the worst luck with school-related anything. I was too exhausted to get up on Tuesday, so I missed my history class. Woke up today, got on the bus where I was greeted by the creeper guy. He's this fucking creep that always tries to get my attention so he can ask for my number or if I want to "get together" sometime.

Eventually I get to school, and as I'm walking to class, this old black woman who is always on the bus (she goes to school at PSC too) asks me if I can help her type her paper. It's due today, but she's a slow typer. She has it all written out, I just have to type it up so she can print it out. I agree, but I have to run to class since it's getting to be that time, she does too, and we both agree to meet up when we get out at 1:45.

So I go to class.

The lights are off.

Okay, maybe the teacher just hasn't gotten there to open the door and turn on the lights. I grab a bench outside and sit. Waiting.. waiting.. Still no lights and I haven't seen any classmates walk by. It gets to be 12:30, class is supposed to be starting, but the lights are still off. Great, so class was canceled and he probably told everyone on Tuesday when I decided it would be a good idea to sleep instead. SMOOTH MOVE, ROBIN.

Now here's the best part: I'm stuck here. I COULD head back to the bus stop and leave at 1:08, getting home at around 2:30, but I promised I'd meet the lady at 1:45 to help type her paper, possible missing the 2:08 bus. On top of all that, I didn't bring my laptop charger, figuring I didn't need it since this is a short class and I'd be home before the battery died.

so i went to the emergency room last night. i was helping a friend fix the eyes on her suit and cutting out some plastic pieces for it wit a boxcutter. ok well i was doing it in a retarded way and i ended up slicing off a corner of my thumb. from a little bit above the nail up, and only one half of it. fun times. ill never do that again
